Approximately 10 years ago, Harold L. Michael passed away at the age of 79. By the time of his death in August 1999, his accomplishments in engineering, particularly in the field of transportation, were outstanding. Harold Michael had served in many important leadership roles in numerous engineering and community service organizations throughout his adult life. In addition, he had received some of the most prestigious awards given by ASCE, ITE, and TRB. First and foremost, Harold Michael was an educator. He spent his entire 40 year professional career as an educator at Purdue University.

The asphalt industry has started using a new technology call Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA).

The APWA International Public Works Congress and Exposition will be in Columbus, Ohio September 13-16. The Ohio University chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers would like to invite you to a student, faculty, and alumni 4-man golf scramble (Note friends of Alumni are welcome as well). This is a fund raising event developed to help finance our chapter’s many projects, competitions, and other activities.

Central Ohio Section Member, Patrick J. Fox, has been awarded the 2009 Thomas A. Middlebrooks Award by the American Society of Civil Engineers for the paper “Effect of progressive failure on measured shear strength of geomembrane/GCL interface”, which he authored with Robert H. Kim and published in the Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 134(4).

Congratulations to Dr. Fox.

Robert Redfield and Kevin Carpenter were awarded the Outstanding Section Members for Central Ohio in 2009.

Dr. Hojjat Adeli was awarded the Outstanding Civil Engineer of Central Ohio for 2009
