2016 STEM Expo

The Central Ohio STEM Expo is a free educational outreach event for students grades K through 8 to explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. At the 2015 event, the ASCE Central Ohio Section welcomed 367 students to participate in over 30 STEM related interactive activities and exhibits. The ASCE Central Ohio Section is pleased to announce the 3rd Annual Central Ohio STEM Expo will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at Thomas Worthington High School from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Ohio State Fair

ASCE will be providing a display on engineering at a State Fair youth display on a day in the period Monday August 3 through Sunday Aug. 9. If anyone is interested in helping for a day or half day in this period please contact Dave Pritchard at 614-519-4819 or davepritchard@sbcglobal.net . While Dave has hands-on displays for use, he is also interested in any new suggestions for the display that might provide good interactive opportunities. It is also interesting to see the many displays put on by other tech entities.

Civil Engineering Career Day - 2015

The Central Ohio Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) is sponsoring a "Civil Engineering Career Day". The purpose of the program is to expose high school juniors to the profession in hopes that they may consider civil engineering as a career. In the past, the program has received national recognition from ASCE for the excellent exposure that the students and community receive as part of the program. This year the program will take place April 21, 2015.

At the inaugural event in 2014, the American Society of Civil Engineers Central Ohio Section welcomed over 140 students to participate in interactive activities and exhibits in the STEM fields. The ASCE Central Ohio Section is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Central Ohio STEM Expo will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at the Metro School from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Order of the Engineer Ceremony

The Order of the Engineer (www.order-of-the-engineer.org) is an organization created to promote a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession. There are no meeting to attend or dues to pay. Instead, Order of the Engineer members foster a unity of purpose by honoring a lifelong pledge to "uphold devotion to the standards and dignity of the engineering profession." Members are given a stainless steel ring which they are encouraged to wear on the small finger of the working hand as a reminder of their obligations.

2014 STEM Expo

The ASCE Central Ohio Section welcomed over 140 students in grades K – 8 at the STEM Expo on February 22, 2014. The students explored hands-on activities and exhibits in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields sponsored by local firms, professional societies, and educational departments. In addition to over 20 interactive activities and exhibits, the students and their parents were able to tour the Ohio State Center for Automotive Research and participate in an interactive program by BUGMAN Education. Students also received take home activity bags provided by HR Gray.

This educational outreach event was organized by the ASCE Younger Member Group and held at The Metro Early College High School. The event was advertised through Columbus area-wide elementary and middle schools, where information was shared through classroom and upper grade level science teachers as well as electronic media outlets. The cost for the venue was covered through the State Public Affairs Grant program, while all activities and exhibits were provided on a volunteer basis. Griggs Reservoir Litter Cleanup

Stream bank volunteer cleanup at Griggs Reservoir (Arlington) as part of Central Ohio River Pride (www.riverpride.org). Cleanup is from 9am to noon. Meet at the Scioto Boat Club on the west side of the river. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are recommended.

EWB fundraiser

The Ohio State University chapter of Engineers Without Borders invites you to attend their first annual Banquet and Silent Auction on October 20, 2010 at the Ohio State Faculty Club.

EWB-OSU students will present their work on a latrine project in El Salvador. The design promotes sustainable technology and it will allow the community to receive treated drinking water in the future.

Tickets are $40 and are being sold until October 14th.
