With great weather, a course in great condition, plenty of great food and the largest turnout of golfers in its history, the 14th Annual ASCE Central Ohio Section was one of the most successful ever. A record turnout of 88 golfers along with a few motorcycle riders participated in this year’s event held once again at Darby Creek Golf Course. The defending champs from 2009, Joe Windau and Tom Roch, brought home the winning score at 3-under par. J.R. Wolfe and George Gillespie were the only other pairing to break par at 1-under par. The topic is Innovative Design Ideas for Below Grade Infrastructure and Accelerated Bridge Construction.

This is a complimentary, non-commercial seminar designed for: civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers; consultants and contractors; port authorities; and academics.

The Portland (Oregon) Metro Council is the only regional government agency in the U.S. whose governing body is directly elected by the region's voters. It serves more than 1.5 million residents in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties and the 25 cities in the Portland region. The Metro Council’s vision is developing ongoing initiatives to plan for 1 million new residents and address climate change while growing a strong economy.

The Central Ohio Section of ASCE held their 10th annual Civil Engineering Career Day on April 22, 2010. In attendance were over 30 high school juniors from over 10 different Central Ohio High Schools. Robert Johnson with Jezerinac Geers took us on a tour of the new OSU Student Union, including the new very large ball room. Dr. Carolyn Merry with OSU and Dr. Ken Walsh with OU presented to the students at lunch and in the afternoon Tony Moeller and Tyler Shane with Turner hosted a tour of the new SciTech project (Radio Frequency Research Building).

ASCE is offering a motorcycle tour for non-golfers in coordination with the ASCE golf outing on June 25. The cost will be $35 for dinner at the Darby Creek Golf Course, located between Plain City and Marysville. We typically start the ride from the McDonalds at Rt. 161 and Avery-Muirfield Dr. in Dublin at about noon, and finish at the golf course between 4 and 5 pm, taking back roads to the northwest of Columbus, with a stop at some notable (or not so notable) site in that area.

14th Annual ASCE Golf Outing June 25th!!

Don’t forget to signup for the 14th annual ASCE Central Ohio Section Golf Outing to be held June 25th, 11:00a.m. at Darby Creek Golf Course. The format is the ever popular 2 person mixed format. For $65, the same price for the past 5 years, you get greens fees, cart, driving range, drink tickets, lunch, steak and chicken dinner, beverages, tons of hole and place prizes and lots of “those” pies at the end.

The ASCE June Planning Meeting will be held on Wednesday June 16th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Tommy’s Pizza in Dublin. The Planning Meeting will help us generate topics of discussion throughout the year at the monthly lunch meetings.
